Brother is one of the most recognisable names in the world of printers. The brand is synonymous with its high-quality printing materials, including laser printers and Brother ink cartridges. It’s one of the most innovative companies in the industry, releasing several landmark products, including the first high-speed dot matrix printer in 1971. Brother printer cartridges give you a high-quality printing experience with optimal performance and a higher page yield than other competitors.
Consistent Quality Printouts
Printers that produce inconsistent quality are a pain. One page might come out with every pixel printed, while another has large pieces of text missing. Or, a page that appeared to be printed properly might see the ink fading quickly over time. With Brother printer cartridges, you’re guaranteed consistent quality printouts that last for years without fading. You don’t have to worry about the ink streaking or smudging during the printing process.
Save Time & Money
Lesser quality printers and toners can often mean more breakdowns, resulting in your machine needing to be repaired or replaced frequently. Using high quality Brother toner cartridges can help extend the lifespan of your printer, plus you won’t be wasting paper due to incorrect printing or ink smudging. This will save you time and money in the long run, plus give you peace of mind that your machine will last longer.
Optimal Printing Performance
Brother printer cartridges are designed to be used in their machines to give you an optimal performance experience from start to finish. Their cartridges are leak-free, and allow for a higher volume of printing.
ISO Standard For Page Yield
Each set of Brother ink cartridges met the stringent ISO testing standards for page yields, ensuring a high-quality printing process that you won’t get from compatible or counterfeit alternatives.
Although genuine Brother printer cartridges provide consistently high quality printouts, some users may shy away from the high price tag.
Other types of ink/toner cartridges include:
These cartridges are made by third party manufacturers and are often cheaper than genuine cartridges. However, because they are made to suit various printer models, compatible ink cartridges will not fit your printer perfectly, and may not deliver the same quality and consistency as Brother printer cartridges. If you do choose to buy a compatible ink cartridge, be sure to find one that suits your exact printer model to prevent any possible damage to the machine.
Remanufactured Ink Cartridges
A remanufactured ink cartridge refers to an empty genuine brand cartridge that has been recycled and refilled with similar ink. Most of the original components remain the same, although this depends on the age of the cartridge. In any case, any issues found in the cartridge will be repaired before it is refilled with ink. This is a more environmentally friendly option, but the quality of ink may not be as good as the original.
Counterfeit supplies are often made to look like genuine products, but sold at a hugely discounted price. Using counterfeit cartridges can cause the ink to smear inside your machine and clog it up, damaging your printer. You’ll often notice fading in the printing as the colour quickly loses its vibrancy. Also, using a counterfeit toner in your Brother printer will void your warranty. At Inks & Toners, we provide only genuine products and strongly advise against purchasing counterfeit cartridges.
To have a seamless printer experience, it is important that you know how to check the ink levels in your printer. The first sign of ink cartridges running low is minor fading in the colour on your printouts or inconsistency in the printing quality. When that happens, there are three ways you can check the levels of your Brother printer cartridges:
1. Control Panel
You can access the ink status from the control panel by choosing the ink icon on your touch screen and selecting the ‘ink volume’ option. Alternatively, you can check through the ‘settings’ area by selecting ‘maintenance’ then ‘ink volume’.
2. Status Monitor Utility
If your Brother printer is connected to a Windows device, you can check the ink levels through the ‘status monitor’, which should be accessible through your task tray. For Mac OS X users, the process is the same, and you should be able to find your ‘status monitor’ utility through your ‘system preferences’.
3. Control Center
You can also check your Brother printer ink through the Control Center that you installed onto your device while setting up the machine. For Window users, you can access this through the ‘Brother Utilities’ app and the ‘ControlCenter4’ setting. For Mac OS X users, you can find this through your ‘Control Center’ through the ‘Device Settings’ option on the top left and then clicking ‘Ink Level’.
Some consumers buy Brother printer cartridges in bulk to lower the cost and/or for the convenience of always having additional cartridges on hand. However, to ensure your Brother ink cartridges work correctly when you need them, you have to store them the right way.
General Rules for Storing Brother Ink Cartridges
You want to be storing your Brother printer cartridges in a cool and dry area, out of direct sunlight. For example, a desk drawer or a box on a shelf away from the window.
Avoid putting your ink cartridges on their sides when storing. Keeping them in an upright position prevents the ink from leaking, which prevents wastage. Plus, if you place multi-coloured cartridges on their sides, the ink could leak and mix the colours within the cartridges.
Brother ink cartridges come in a sealed plastic container, and they should stay in it until you are ready to use the cartridges. This keeps them from being exposed to air, which would cause the ink in the cartridge to dry up.
Try to print regularly to prevent the ink cartridges inside your printer from drying up. You can always print a test page once a while to keep the ink working. If you know you will not be printing anything for a long period of time, we recommend that you take the cartridge out of the machine and store it properly.
Storing Brother Ink Cartridges That Have Been Opened
If you have removed your ink cartridge from the printer because you are not using the machine, or if you had accidentally opened a cartridge without needing to use it, store it in an airtight plastic container to prolong its lifespan. Keep it in an upright position to prevent leaks. Also, put a piece of paper inside the container and protect the nozzles of the cartridges, so nothing touches them.
Using a Brother Ink Cartridge After Storage
When you’re ready to use your ink, you want to double-check the cartridge to ensure it is still of good quality before placing it into your machine. Start by checking for any spills or dust on the cartridge. If there is, gently wipe them away. Place a tissue against the print head to make sure it is still moist and not dried up. Once it is installed, print a test page to check that the cartridge is working as it should.
Can Third-Party Ink Be Used To Refill The Ink Cartridges?
Brother advises against refilling their ink cartridges as non-Brother supplies can cause hardware issues and reduce the printing quality. The formulation of genuine Brother ink is made to prevent smearing and clogging in the print head, which other inks might cause. Using a third-party ink to refill your ink cartridge will void your warranty for a Brother machine.
Is Brother Ink Expensive?
Brother is one of the market-leading premium cartridge brands with innovative technology. Although the cartridges may cost more, the cost-per-page is significantly lower than other brands thanks to Brother’s high yield inks. At Inks & Toners, we offer Brother printer cartridges at a competitive price to give you the best rate on the market.
Why is Printer Ink So Expensive Now?
Printer cartridges often end up costing more than the machine due to their high price tag. Printer ink is expensive due to the engineering involved in creating the system, including research and development on pigment composition to give you a high-quality printing experience.
Why Does My Brother Printer Use So Much Ink?
The first time you install the ink cartridges, your machine will use extra ink to fill up the delivery tubes. This is a one-off process that allows the high-quality printing of the machine. The starter ink that comes with your printer will have a larger volume than normal Brother ink cartridges to compensate for this.
If you think your Brother printer is running out of ink quicker than expected, it may be due to the density and frequency of your printing. Documents that have a higher density of background colour will require a larger amount of ink. The automatic print head assembly cleaning mechanism also uses a small amount of ink each time it carries out the cleaning process.
Why Do The Colour Ink Cartridges Run Out of Ink Even Though I Never or Rarely Print in Colour?
There are several reasons why your colour ink cartridges seem to be running out even when you do not use the machine.
Firstly, the cleaning cycle of your printer can affect your colour ink consumption as the machine is designed to automatically clean all the inkjet nozzles according to a programmed schedule. Every two days, your machine will carry out a 'flushing' of the ink cartridges. During this process, the printer takes a small amount of ink to remove air bubbles that exist in the cartridge. It also cleans dust and dried ink on the nozzles and channels of the cartridges. This cleaning process means you can enjoy a high-quality printing experience, and it helps extend the lifespan of the print head. You can find this process in any inkjet printing machine.
Secondly, the default setting on a colour printer is for colour printing. This means, even if you only print black-and-white documents, your printer automatically mixes all the colours to create the selected colour – in this case, black. You can prevent this from happening by changing your printer settings to grayscale, and selecting ‘plain paper’ in the Media Type section. If you have another option other than ‘plain paper’ selected, this can also result in coloured ink being used even when printing black-and-white documents.
For Windows users, you can find these options in your ‘printing preferences’ under the ‘advanced’ tab for grayscale and ‘basic’ tab for plain paper. Mac OS users can find these settings in their print dialogue, under the ‘advanced’ tab for grayscale and ‘basic´ for plain paper. For newer Mac OS systems, you can find both options in the ‘print setting’ section.
